  We had just completed our new residence and one of the final jobs to do was brick paving. We had just over 200 square metres to do and had selected a new Midland Brick product called Ashlar. These 60mm thick pavers comprise about 6 different sizes that together make a pattern of 1000 x 1100mm but a couple of sizes in the pattern are heavy. We contacted a couple of brick paving companies from the ‘net’ and also advertised on a job-seek site. We had almost selected a paver when Mick Morris who runs Brick Mart rang us and invited us to allow him to quote. He sent us a man named Duncan who he said was his top paver to measure up. We already had some of this paver laid in our garage by the building company and said to him that if his work was a good as this job, we would be very happy. He assured us he could do a quality job in 4 days maximum. Mick Morris provided us his quote which was competitive so we selected him. We were told there would be a team and were given the following Monday as a start date.

  We don’t know for sure how Brick Mart operates but it seems they simply sub-contract out to whoever they have at hand and they then take a step back. If we were to do it again, we would make sure that the person we contract is the person actually doing the job. All in all, we would not recommend Brick Mart.

  Duncan’s team failed to show until Wednesday late morning and then only two men. We never saw this team of men that was promised to complete the job in four days. After that, the job took nearly three weeks with the ‘crew’ not arriving any day before 10:30 and some days not at all. We needed them to finish within the time promised as we had other trades waiting to come in after them. In the end, we had to put them off – a couple of them at cost to us. One of the biggest frustrations was that we would continually call Duncan, to be given excuses like Mick Morris had failed to provide materials, impending weather or he wouldn’t answer the call altogether. We would then call Mick Morris who would blame Duncan for letting him down. Duncan was blaming Mick and Mick was blaming Duncan.

  They are very unprofessional in they way they do business - breaking all promises and making a list of very weak excuses. We are surprised to know how Mick Morris stays in business. Do not contract them to do your job.

  In the end, the job was completed to a satisfactory standard but the pavers needed to come back to finish off some cutting in and spreading PaveSet before we made final payment.
